The Great Fish and Yabby Debate in George’s Giraffes

We are still having the debate which started after Lilliana went yabbying on the weekend. Should we put fish or yabbies in our new fish tank? This question has generated a lot of curiosity and excitement among the children. We learnt about the differences between fish and yabbies eg yabbies have nippers that go “nip, nip”. The children collaged some fish and yabbies, as well as making some awesome fish handprints. They look really amazing. Each child chose their own craft pieces to decorate and create their own unique fish. It’s important children understand they can make decisions that affect the outcome of their play and activities. This gives children a sense of control and contributes to an understanding of their place in the world.
We decided a visit to Pet Barn would help decide the fish/yabby debate. It was lots of fun and we even saw an axolotl. They’re “fish” with legs!! And the debate – yabbies won! We now have a yabby named Uncle Buck. Thanks Oliver for thinking of such a great name.
