Protecting Every Child

We take every step to ensure children are safe, supported, and respected.

At Dubbo Early Learning Centre, child protection is part of our everyday practice. We are committed to keeping all children safe by building strong relationships, recognising early signs of concern, and responding quickly and professionally. Every member of our team understands their role and takes responsibility for acting in the best interest of children.

Working Respectfully With Families

We respect diverse family values and beliefs, while always upholding children’s safety as our top priority. When families have cultural or personal preferences—like privacy during care routines or religious jewellery—our educators work with them to find respectful, safe solutions. If a family has different views about behaviour guidance, we offer positive alternatives that align with our child protection policies. These open and respectful conversations help us build trust while ensuring safety is never compromised.

Acting Immediately and Consistently

Our educators are trained to recognise and respond to signs of harm, neglect, or emotional distress. When a concern arises, educators document what they observe and immediately inform the Nominated Supervisor. From there, appropriate action is taken, which may include contacting child protection authorities. We hold regular team meetings to discuss responsibilities, review our policies, and ensure all staff feel confident and supported to act when needed.

Creating Change Through Reflection

We reflect as a team on how social justice and equity shape our decisions. For example, if a child from a financially struggling family doesn’t have suitable clothing, we discreetly offer spare items and connect the family with local support. If a child with a disability needs support during routines, we adjust the environment and routines to include them. These practices help ensure every child—no matter their background, ability, or circumstance—feels safe, included, and protected.

Sharing and Communicating Clearly

Families are kept informed about our approach to child protection. We provide information in home languages, use interpreters when needed, and make sure families understand our reporting obligations and support systems. If a child discloses something concerning, we follow legal guidelines while protecting the child’s emotional safety and keeping communication open with families, where appropriate.

A Safe and Inclusive Space for All

We regularly review our practices to ensure we are creating a culturally safe, inclusive space. From helping children understand their rights, to supporting emotional wellbeing and reducing risks in all areas of play, we take a proactive and thoughtful approach to protecting every child.
