Whole Child Health

We support children to develop lifelong healthy habits.

At Dubbo Early Learning Centre, promoting healthy lifestyles is woven into our everyday program. We believe that wellbeing is about more than just good food or physical activity—it’s about supporting the whole child through nutrition, movement, hygiene, emotional wellbeing, and connection to community.

Healthy Habits Are Part of Our Routine

Children learn about health in hands-on, meaningful ways. They help prepare nutritious snacks, participate in yoga, enjoy obstacle courses and dance, and learn about personal hygiene through fun songs and games. Our team also teaches children about emotions, mindfulness, and self-care strategies that help them develop resilience and self-awareness. These activities happen daily and are tailored to meet each child’s developmental stage.

Learning Through Experience and Play

Children grow plants in our garden, participate in cooking sessions, and learn about healthy food choices through play. They explore nature through walks, talk about sun safety and hydration during outdoor time, and practise safe habits when walking near roads or exploring the local community. These experiences help children understand health in real-world contexts.

Families and the Community Are Involved

We work closely with families and the broader community to promote healthy lifestyles. We host cooking, healthy living days, and share healthy recipes in our newsletters and displays. Families often contribute ideas and resources, and local professionals such as dietitians and fitness experts are invited to share their knowledge with children and families. These partnerships help build a strong, shared foundation for children’s wellbeing at home and at the centre.

We Reflect and Adjust Based on Children’s Needs

Our educators reflect regularly on children’s energy levels, preferences, and sensory needs. If we notice high energy after lunch, we add movement games. If we observe children are tired, we adjust group time to better suit their rhythms. For children with sensory or additional needs, we adapt our program to include calming, inclusive options like yoga, sensory bins, and quiet spaces. These ongoing reflections help us personalise and improve the program.

Wellbeing for the Whole Child

Healthy habits extend beyond food and movement. We teach children about sleep, emotional expression, relaxation, and kindness. Our program supports social-emotional learning and encourages children to build positive relationships, manage big feelings, and take care of their own bodies and minds.
