Sharing Learning with Families

We work with you to understand, support, and celebrate your child’s learning.

At Dubbo Early Learning Centre, we believe families are our most important partners. That’s why we share your child’s learning in ways that are open, clear, and tailored to your preferences. We want you to feel connected to your child’s day, their progress, and their goals—because you’re part of the learning journey too.

We communicate with purpose

All educators include children’s voices and family input in their documentation. Whether it’s a photo, a story, or a planning note, we show how learning links to real interests and real lives. You might see a child’s quote, a note about what a parent shared, or a suggestion on how to extend learning at home.

We keep it clear and family-friendly

We avoid jargon and write in a way that’s easy to understand. Instead of saying, “Jai is developing fine motor skills through upper limb manipulation,” we’ll say, “Jai loved threading beads today—he’s building strong finger muscles for writing.”

We also use photos, captions, and simple explanations to show the “why” behind play. This helps families understand not just what children are doing, but what they’re learning.

We offer different ways to stay in touch

We understand that families are busy, and that one method of communication doesn’t suit everyone. So we ask what works best for you—face-to-face chats, emails, phone calls, printed notes, or updates through our app. We check in often to make sure you’re getting the information in a way that’s useful and respectful of your time and preferences.

We personalise our communication

We take care to reflect your culture, language, and family routines in what we document. We might use your child’s home language in a story, mention a family celebration, or invite you to share something from home. If English isn’t your first language, we’ll support communication through visuals, translations, or bilingual staff where possible.

We make reflection part of our routine

Our team regularly reflects on how we’re communicating with families. We ask questions like: Are our stories clear? Are families engaging with what we share? How can we make our messages more inclusive? If a parent suggests simplifying a learning update or adding more photos, we adjust. Your feedback helps us improve.

We invite you in

Whether it’s through a comment on a learning story, a note added to our planning wall, or a conversation at pick-up time, your insights matter. If your child is baking at home, we might set up a cooking experience. If you share that your child is nervous about outdoor play, we’ll gently build confidence through supported experiences.

Your voice shapes our program—and your child’s growth is always a shared success.
