Your Child’s Learning

We plan around your child’s strengths, interests, culture, and story.

At Dubbo Early Learning Centre, your child isn’t just part of the program—they are the reason for it. Every experience we create is built on what matters most: your child’s ideas, needs, identity, and family life. We aim to provide learning that feels personal, purposeful, and connected to who your child truly is.

        We Follow Your Child’s Lead

Our curriculum grows directly from what children show us in their play, conversations, and daily routines. When a child showed interest in local bushland, we explored native plants, read Dreaming stories, and invited Aboriginal community members to share their knowledge. When a group became fascinated by insects, we added magnifying glasses, created observation journals, and designed inquiry-based science games. Learning starts with the child’s real interests—not just a schedule on paper.

We Include Every Child’s Culture and Strengths

We work closely with families to bring children’s cultures, traditions, and lived experiences into the centre. When a family shared their tradition of dance-based storytelling, we invited them to lead a cultural movement session. When a child expressed interest in weaving, grandparents joined us to teach techniques and share stories. These moments honour every child’s identity and deepen their sense of belonging in our community.

We Connect Learning to the Real World

Children learn best when experiences feel real and relevant. We build bridges between the centre and your child’s everyday life. When a family owned a bakery, we took a group to visit, watched bread being made, and set up a pretend bakery at the service. If a parent is a truck driver, accountant, or paramedic—we invite them to share their role with the children. These connections help children feel proud of who they are and where they come from.

We Personalise Learning for Every Child

We adapt our program to meet each child’s individual needs and circumstances. For children who speak a home language other than English, we use visual supports, bilingual books, and small-group time to make learning more accessible. For children with FIFO parents, we use calendars, messages from home, and family photos to provide continuity. For children from farming families, we bring farm life into our outdoor learning spaces. Every child is included, understood, and celebrated.

        We Reflect Constantly

Reflection is part of our daily practice. Our team regularly meets to ask: Are we truly listening to this child? Is our space inclusive and engaging for them? How can we make their experience even better tomorrow? We don’t wait for something to go wrong. Instead, we proactively adjust, plan, and respond to ensure every child has a meaningful and empowering learning journey.
