Our routines are full of rich, meaningful learning.
At Dubbo Early Learning Centre, we believe that learning happens all day—not just during planned activities. From the moment your child arrives to the time they go home, every part of the day is an opportunity to support their development, confidence, and joy in learning. Whether it’s during meals, nappy changes, transitions, or rest, our routines are thoughtfully designed to be engaging, comforting, and meaningful.
Smooth and Purposeful Transitions
We’ve worked closely with our Educational Leader to ensure transitions are smooth and intentional. Rather than just moving children from one activity to the next, transitions help build children’s communication skills, emotional security, and sense of connection. Visual schedules help children anticipate what’s coming, and we include movement games and “walking chats” to make these moments social and fun. Group times are short, interactive, and often led by children themselves.
Connection During Care Moments
Care routines like mealtimes, handwashing, and nappy changes are never rushed. These are precious one-on-one moments where educators chat, sing, and connect. We use these moments to build strong bonds, provide calming sensory input, and support language development. These everyday routines help children feel safe, seen, and cared for.
Children Help Shape the Day
We empower children to take an active role in our daily routines. Each morning, children help plan the day and prepare the learning spaces. They choose how to transition into rest—perhaps through shared storytelling or quiet play—and even take the lead during clean-up time with group challenges and co-created songs. These opportunities build confidence, responsibility, and a strong sense of belonging.
Learning in Everyday Activities
We embed learning into every part of the day. Signing in becomes a chance to recognise names and letters. Snack time is a moment for conversations about food, nutrition, and sustainability. Role play during pack-up transforms spaces into pretend bakeries, train stations, or rescue hubs. These familiar routines become rich learning experiences.
Families Help Shape Our Routines
We work closely with families to make our routines inclusive and relevant to children’s home lives. We’ve introduced a “settling-in station” to help ease morning goodbyes, adjusted sleep and meal times to reflect home routines, and designed toilet training plans in partnership with parents. A visual communication board near the entrance helps families talk with their children about the day ahead.
Always Reflecting, Always Improving
Our educators meet regularly with the Educational Leader to reflect on how routines are working. Are children calm and engaged? Are learning moments happening throughout the day? Based on what we notice, we make improvements. This ongoing reflection ensures our routines continue to evolve and serve each child’s needs.
Every Moment Counts
At Dubbo, our routines aren’t just habits—they’re teaching tools. Every interaction, transition, and moment of care is designed to support your child’s development and wellbeing. We take pride in making the everyday extraordinary.
