Moving cows to another paddock
Connecting with community:
It’s important that children feel like they belong in their world, and understand their connections with family and community. This contributes to a positive sense of identity and
wellbeing, and is the basis for all other learning. Did you know that there are lots of learning outcomes in the Early Years Learning Framework that focus on identity, connections, belonging, relationships and wellbeing?
This week teachers in the junior preschool room have been helping children explore different connections they have with the wider community. For example, they talked about what they did on the weekend. Cooper helped move cows from one paddock to another. He explained to the teachers where the cows had to go as well as the type of feed and water they needed. This became an interest with William, Chloe and Lydia where they proceeded to make cows. Penny and Tamara provided the paddocks and the play and learning continued. It’s great to see children using their knowledge and understanding about their world to develop fun learning games they can play with friends. The children loved constructing the cows and were very confident and knew exactly what they needed to make these beautiful cows.
