Under Construction

Children love to build and experiment. This week we continued exploring these interests in our construction corner which has lots of materials for children to work with.

Children had a lot of fun constructing ramps using cones and lengths of timber. They worked together to balance the planks on the cones. It took many hands to balance and guide both ends of the planks into place at the same time. After numerous attempts the children were successful and they then took turns racing the cars to the platform.

While this may just look like play, there is so much learning happening in this activity. For example children are exploring:

• early numeracy ideas like speed, slope, size, time, balance strengthening
• their social skills as they negotiate, co-operate and share developing problem solving skills.

Our educators understand and look for all these learning opportunities, then build on them with more exciting activities and experiences.
