A core pillar of the learning at Dubbo Early Learning Centre is the development of Life-Skills. Our Children assist with cleaning, tidying, washing up and other tasks throughout the day.
Our Junior MasterCook program was conceived when our Cook decided that he wanted to transition into the classrooms and study to become an Educator. Now children enjoy the opportunity to prepare some of their own meals with the support and direction of the Educators. Lasagna is a big favorite and other challenging but fun meals the children have prepared include making their own sausages, curries, healthy pizza and spicy Thai satay!
Dubbo Early Learning Centre is a proudly diverse Centre and we use the Junior MasterCook program to introduce the Children to the food of other cultures which further develops relationships with families and the community.
The participation in food preparation is also a strategy for encouraging fussy eaters to be more open to tasting new and different foods and an important opportunity to model healthy eating.
Our children learn about the origins of their food though this program and in the process of growing some of our produce in the small veggie patch which they maintain themselves.
