Relationships with Children

Building Positive Relationships

At Dubbo Early Learning Centre, every interaction between educators and children is thoughtful, respectful, and meaningful. Whether it’s chatting with babies during nappy changes, using silly voices during group reading, or guiding older children through shared routines, our educators create moments that help each child feel seen, valued, and secure. These positive relationships build trust, confidence, and a sense of belonging—setting the foundation for lifelong learning and wellbeing.

Respecting Every Child’s Dignity and Rights

We treat all children with dignity, fairness, and kindness—no matter their age, needs, background, or behaviour. This includes providing privacy during toileting, using calm and respectful language when supporting behaviour, and honouring each child’s identity and culture. We regularly reflect on our practices to challenge bias, support equity, and ensure that every child is treated with care and respect. Families are invited to share preferences, beliefs, and traditions so that our learning environments remain inclusive and culturally responsive.

Learning With and From Each Other

Children are supported to work together, help one another, and collaborate in playful, meaningful ways. Our environments are intentionally designed to promote peer interaction, using loose parts, open-ended materials, and group-based experiences. Educators teach children how to take turns, solve problems, and share ideas respectfully. We celebrate group projects, encourage teamwork, and include all children in ways that reflect their interests, strengths, and unique ways of participating.

Supporting Behaviour and Self-Regulation

Our educators guide children to understand their emotions, manage their responses, and resolve conflict calmly and respectfully. We use visual cues, gentle coaching, mindfulness practices, and consistent routines to support children’s developing self-regulation skills. Each child is supported in a way that considers their temperament, background, and needs. Families are partners in this process—we align our strategies with your home approaches where possible and connect you with helpful community resources when needed.
