Our Curriculum: Where Dubbo Becomes the Classroom

At Dubbo Early Learning Centre, we’re not just another childcare centre — we’re Dubbo’s community-based classroom. Every day, we venture beyond our fence to explore Blueridge Park and its local businesses, transforming the real world into a dynamic learning space. From the café to the post office, from the park bench to the local vet, our children learn from the people, places, and stories that make Dubbo special.

We promise your child won’t just learn about the world — they’ll experience it. Every day, our excursions spark wonder, build connections, and hook children into deeper learning. Whether it’s asking questions at the panel beaters or discovering how a local tradesperson’s tools work, how how much weight a crane can lift, your child’s curiosity is our compass. This is learning that goes beyond walls — it’s real, relevant, and unforgettable.

Every excursion, every community visitor, every child’s question — they all build our story: a centre where learning is alive and rooted in community. Our educators consistently create experiences that are warm, engaging, and deeply personal. Every story we share with you — through displays, conversations, and learning journals — reflects our commitment to making Dubbo your child’s classroom and your family’s partner in learning.

Our big idea is simple but powerful: “Learning Beyond the Centre Fence.” We believe Dubbo is more than a place — it’s a living, breathing classroom that shapes children’s sense of identity, belonging, and wonder. Every day, we transform everyday outings into unforgettable learning adventures, giving your child experiences that build confidence, curiosity, and real-world skills.

Our Learning Framework

We use the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) — Belonging, Being and Becoming — to guide everything we do. But we don’t stop there. We weave in eight Key Learning Areas: English, Mathematics, Science, Creative Arts, HSIE, PDHPE, Poems and Songs, and Animals of Dubbo. These areas come to life through our daily community adventures, ensuring that every child sees Dubbo not just as home — but as a place of endless learning.

How We Make Learning Matter

  • We Focus on Real-World Connections: Children build identity, friendships, healthy habits, curiosity, and language by exploring their world.
  • We Design with Purpose: Our educators meet weekly to reflect, adapt, and respond to what children are curious about — from building towers to exploring trucks.
  • We Are Guided by Research: Theories like Vygotsky’s social learning and Bronfenbrenner’s ecological model shape our focus on relationships, confidence, and community.
  • We Make Local Life the Curriculum: From daily walks around Blueridge Park to visits to local businesses, we use the world outside our fence to make learning real.
  • Families are Learning Partners: We invite you to bring in recipes, stories, languages, and traditions. Learning journals, photos, and conversations keep you connected every step of the way.

What This Looks Like Each Day

Storytime becomes a chance to discuss emotions and family stories. The sandpit becomes a construction site. Group time becomes a stage for spontaneous performances. A passing interest in trucks becomes a week-long transport adventure, complete with maps, role play, and real-world connections.

At Dubbo Early Learning Centre, every learning moment is intentional, community-based, and guided by our big idea: “Learning Beyond the Centre Fence.”
